Costa Del Sol

The Costa del Sol, situated in the south of the Iberian Peninsula in the far west of the Mediterranean, occupies 161 kilometres of Malaga coastline and naturally continues to the east and west into the provinces of Granada and Cádiz, which border the Province of Malaga.

Its name (which means the “Coast of Sun”) is a true reflection of reality, given that its climate offers an average of 300 days of sun a year, converting Malaga and its surrounding towns, such as Torremolinos, into a popular year-round destination.

The capital of the province is the city of Malaga. It is located practically in the geographical centre of the province’s coastline. Not only is it the meeting point for transport links between the other towns and villages, it also divides the two large areas that constitute the Costa del Sol: the eastern side and the western coast, where Torremolinos and our hotel are located.

TORREMOLINOS
Torremolinos has a long history as a tourist destination considering that in the 60s it became an excellent choice among tourists. Since then, it has continued to grow and improve its services on offer to all visitors in an area brimming with fun, gastronomy and cultural activities. Flanked on one side by Guadalmar and its popular golf course and by Benalmadena with its famous marina on the other, this town boasts an excellent location and fantastic transport links, being just a few minutes away from Malaga Airport and less than thirty minutes from Malaga’s train and bus stations.

Torremolinos has extensive beaches, all of which have multiple beach bars where you can sample the best fried fish in Spain and the area’s traditional, unique sardine “espetos”. Its beaches are always accompanied by the endless promenade. Hotel Puentereal offers you one of the most strategic locations in this renowned town: we are situated on the beach front and are surrounded by a huge variety of shops, restaurants, supermarkets and all kinds of service establishments. The centre of Torremolinos is also just a short walk away.

Regarding gastronomy, fresh fish and our famous “pescaito” (fried fish) is readily available. You can also find hotel restaurants with Indian or Japanese food in the surrounding area. Torremolinos even has some avant-garde cuisine restaurants to offer you. We recommend you enjoy a few good portions of fried fish in the famous La Carihuela fishing district before enjoying a delicious ice cream by the sea.

COSTA DEL SOL BEACHES
The most famous and most popular beaches due to their hygienic and sanitary facilities, public showers, beach bars and restaurants, sunbed areas, water sports, volleyball nets and posts, parking, recreational boating areas, pedal boat, etc. are as follows:

Torremolinos: Los Alamos-Playamar-Bajondillo and La Carihuela-Montemar

GOLF
The Costa del Sol is also known as the Costa del Golf (the “Coast of Golf”), with very good reason. Boasting more than 70 courses, the Province of Malaga and the Costa del Sol is the leading destination in Europe for this wonderful, exclusive sport. The infrastructure created for this sport is further complemented by the unbeatable micro-climate this area enjoys. It provides visitors with a natural way of playing golf all year: you have no excuse for not affording yourself the small luxury of playing some of these courses.

The list of courses is extensive, although within the vicinity of the hotel we can highlight Real Club de Campo de Malaga, which is next to Los Alamos promenade and just a few minutes away from the hotel. The prices and characteristics of different courses can vary substantially from one place to another. We recommend you consult a specialised website before opting for a certain course.

EXCURSIONS
As we have previously mentioned, Torremolinos has great transport links, meaning it is the perfect start point for excursions in the area. The city of Malaga has improved its offerings greatly in recent years such that today it is an interesting cultural destination with its cathedral, Alcazaba, Roman theatre, multiple museums (the Picasso Museum, Carmen Thyssen Museum, Pompidou Centre, etc.) and the recently created Soho district. You can also take in spectacular panoramic views of the city from the Gibralfaro Castle. Malaga is just fifteen minutes away from Torremolinos by train, with this transport method stopping in Malaga’s historic centre.

If you are considering venturing further afield, towns like Nerja, Marbella, Ronda or any of the others included on the Ruta de los Pueblos de la Axarquía, or even Granada and its Alhambra, can be fantastic day trips. Here are some of our suggestions:

  • The Balcony of Europe in Nerja
  • Marbella’s old quarter
  • Puerto Banus
  • The Arab Baths of Ronda
  • The Axarquía Route
  • Gibralfaro Castle
  • Malaga Cathedral
